3. Worship engages our affections
- Worship must have emotion but is not devoid of content
“Where feelings for God are dead, worship is dead.”
“Delight yourself in the Lord…” Ps. 37:4
“’These people honor me with their lips, but their
hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings
are but rules taught by men.’” Matthew 15: 8,9
- Praise is the spontaneous overflow of enjoyment. The consummation
of delight in a beloved. (CS Lewis, Jonathan Edwards)
- Philippians 4:6, Psalm 100:2, 37:4, 32:11, 16:11.
- The pursuit of joy in God is our highest duty. It is obligatory!
