Each year, a group of 15 men and women are elected at the annual
congregational meeting to serve as “Trustees” of Columbia
Presbyterian Church. This group of volunteers, known as “The
Board of Trustees” meets each month to carry
out actions on behalf of the corporation
known as Columbia Presbyterian Church.
Purpose
The by-laws of the Board of Trustees of CPC states that the board
“shall be charged with the following responsibilities: it
shall attend to the care and upkeep of all property owned by the
corporation, taking care that it is properly insured and maintained;
it shall arrange for adequate meeting facilities for the congregation,
whether by renting or purchasing, and shall arrange for the financing
of those facilities as required; it shall prepare and submit to
the members of the corporation at the annual meeting (a) a report
regarding the corporation’s financial condition, the adequacy
of the current meeting facilities and any future plans for meeting
facilities and (b) a budget, as approved by the session, of appropriations
needed for the succeeding year’s operation, including a benevolence
budget furnished by the session.”
Columbia Presbyterian Church’s facility is truly a “ministry
center” and is in heavy use throughout the week, not only
on Sunday morning. Youth activities, women’s Bible studies,
cell groups, Upward and adult basketball, schools, church social
events and more, keep the building busy. This, however, takes its
toll in wear and tear on the facility and the furnishings. Keeping
the facility repaired, cleaned and giving oversight to its use falls
on the Trustees.
The oversight of the church’s offerings/gifts receipts and
the spending of those monies wisely and within a budget, also falls
onto the Trustees for oversight.
Congregational Support
The members of the Trustees could not operate alone, without the
many volunteers who serve on various subcommittees of the board
– such as the finance committee and the facility requirements
committee - or who kindly help maintain the property.
The Trustees welcome the congregation’s help in these activities,
and encourage all to be aware that the building needs loving care.
